How often does a rented flat need an EICR?

In England, at least every five years, or sooner if the last report says so. Landlords must give new tenants a copy of a valid report before they move in, and existing tenants need a copy within 28 days of an inspection.

Can we stay in the house during a rewire?

Usually. We work a floor at a time and get power back to the rooms you are using each evening. A three-bed terrace takes about two weeks.

Will you damage the plasterwork?

We keep disruption to a minimum. We lift floorboards and feed cables through the voids, chase walls only where there is no other route, and fill every chase ready for decorating. Cornices and ceiling roses are worked around, not through.

What is wrong with an old fuse box?

Not necessarily anything. Some older fuse boxes lack residual current device (RCD) protection. An electrical inspection can identify what protection is present and whether work is needed.

Can you fit a car charger with on-street parking?

Only where the car can charge without a cable crossing the pavement, which usually means a drive, a garage or a mews. We look at it on the first visit.

How does a fault-finding call-out work?

The call-out charge is £85 including VAT. It covers getting to you and the first hour on site; after that it is £55 an hour including VAT. We tell you the charge on the phone before we set off.

Who signs off your work?

Business details are omitted from this design preview.
